About DEA

The Digital Earth Action (DEA) is an internally funded project of CIMA FOUNDATION, started in 2011. The main goal of this project is the strategic integration among satellite observations, other GIS data and online “unconventional” information (social networks, web sources, geospatial services, mobile and video technologies) to test the feasibility of remote studies to reduce flood risk in different countries. The Action developed untill 2012 has three components: the search of data available in the most important geodatabases in the world together with the availability of unconventional data; the vulnerability study per single building and consequently the evaluation of the residual functioning capacity; the study of the vulnerability of an infrastructure network finalized to emergency management and the definition of areal loss of functionality.
The project is constantly evolving and new tasks of the project are now under development in collaboration with Vrije Universiteit Brussel-Department of Geography and University of Nottingham-Nottingham Geospatial Institute.

But the the digital earth is something more than a project….

the digital earth is the need to see the world around us not only through “normal eyes” but through the lens of an amplified, stratified and complete knowledge of the enviroment. This deep view allow us to not stop our knowledge at the surface of the object and as a consequence to manage and take action on the territory in a more wise and farsighted way.

The digital earth is the hyper reality of the iDEAS
